Cabarete Conditions & Venue
“Thank you so much Ari! Without you and Laser Training Cabarete I would not be here with a medal. Thanks for all the support and great sailing moments!”

THE PREMIER SAILING VENUE
For 20 years, Laser ILCA Training Cabarete has been the premier venue for world-class and master Laser sailors who want the challenge of sailing in ocean swells. Why do top sailors come to Cabarete? With a variety of conditions and user-friendly ocean swell that allows for downwind speed improvement, sailors have the opportunity to experience exciting new challenges every sailing practice.
A TYPICAL DAY Cabarete experiences a building thermal—easterly wind patterns that give sailors the opportunity to choose the wind strength they would like to practice in that day. Sailors experience a range of winds from light wind in the morning, increasing over the course of the day. Increased winds typically last through the late afternoon.

CABARETE
BAY

Cabarete features two unique sailing playing fields. Cabarete Bay is protected by reefs, so the sea state is flatter then in open ocean. Directly off the beach, launch into protected warm water with medium-sized chop and swell. Here the winds are lighter and shiftier, offering great tactical practice for regattas.
A quick sail through the channel brings you to the Atlantic Ocean. Imagine long swells, which travelled thousands of miles to reach Cabarete. In the afternoon when the winds build, conditions afford sailors some of the most thrilling downwind surf-sailing in the world. Practice in Cabarete will give you the downwind sailing advantage you need to beat the competition.
Combine all that with the beautiful Dominican North Coast, warm Caribbean waters, and top coaches for intermediate to world-class sailors. Sailing in Cabarete will delight you and send you on a path to becoming a more skilled and confident sailor.

“I wanted to thank you for putting together several of the key ingredients that have led to my very positive experience sailing in Cabarete.
Upon my arrival, winds were high, and the seas were big. I immediately felt like sailing in Cabarete was going to be over my head. Coach Judith was very informative. She has a no nonsense easy to understand approach to teaching. On the very first day, after a pre-sail briefing, we rigged our boats and went out into 18+ knots and large waves. I capsized many times. Judith encouraged me to push myself and I must tell you how pleased I am that I did. After completing the 5 day class, I can easily say that I am a much better sailor, and even more importantly, I am no longer intimidated by high winds or waves. In addition, as good as the sailing experience was, it was made exponentially better by all of the very nice, interesting people that I met during the class. This was a fantastic experience. I will unquestionably be back to Cabarete to sail with coach Judith again next year.
Congratulations on having assembled a fantastic team at CaribWind. The team inside the shop and outside were always friendly and helpful.”
