10th Caribbean Laser Midwinter Regatta
January 13th-15th, 2012.
36 sailors from 13 countries were challenged in all possible sailing conditions, during the 3 day 10th Caribbean Laser Midwinter Regatta held in Cabarete, Dominican Republic.
First day offered steady 22 knots with big swell, Second day featured crowed pleaser in bay racing with shifty and gusty offshore wind, and the third day offered three races in 6 to 12 knots, in a beautiful Caribbean Sunny day.
Julio Alsogaray, from Argentina who recently won the Gold Medal in the Pan Games, fought hard to beat Italian Olympic hopeful Michele Regolo, and young Ard Van Aanholt from Curacao surprised all for finishing 3rd ahead of a few olympic sailors.
In the Radial calls 1st place is Juanky Perdomo from Puerto Rico, who edged Philipine Van Aanholt from Curacao, and third was Peter Seidenberg from the USA.
The Master category winner is Ari Barshi from the Dominican Republic, who used his local knowledge of the waves downwind to beat Wolfgang Gerz from Germany on the last race.

What is the Laser Caribbean Midwinter Regatta?
The new Laser racing year calendar starts in Cabarete every January with Caribbean Laser Midwinter Regatta. Now in its tenth year, it has become a true world event on the Laser circuit of the Americas. Internationally known sailors such as Nick Thompson from Great Britain, Javier Hernandez of Spain, Gustavo Lima of Portugal, Raul Aguayo of the Dominican Republic and Peter Seidenberg and Charlie Buckingham of the US have come to race this prestigious event.
Held the weekend before the Miami OCR, (January 13th, 14th, 15th, 2012), this regatta is seen as an opportunity for weekend-warrior sailors to compete with the best in the best sailing conditions. Here mid-fleet sailors can casually chat with those who have made it to the top of their game, and learn from the greats of the Laser fleet.
